For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him ; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. [4] He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
1 Corinthians 14:2,4
It is important for you to recognize that life is spiritual. And you are a spirit being clothed in a human body. Your physical body is the home in which you live (2 Corinthians 5:1). This same body is also the Temple of God's Spirit.
The extent of impact of your life is largely dependent on the state of your spirit. That's why there was the need for you to be born again. After you were born again, you were filled with God's Spirit. However, being filled with the spirit must happen on a regular basis.
When you speak in other tongues, you utter spiritual torpedoes into the realm of the spirit. You may not understand what you're saying, but God sure does understand you. Mysteries refer to knowledge that is hidden. In other words, when you speak in other tongues, you are literally speaking hidden things concerning your own life, your education, business, work, family and ministry.
Please observe that speaking in tongues is synonymous to praying with the Spirit. Thus, when you speak in tongues, you're praying.
Notice that in verse 4 of 1 Corinthians 14, the Bible says when you speak in tongues, you edify yourself. The word edify as used there means 'to build up, to charge.' So when you speak in tongues, you build yourself up. It is akin to charging a battery.
So speak tongues often. Make it one of your habits. Because as you do, you'll be releasing mysteries and building yourself up.
Hallelujah!
