When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!
2 Corinthians 5:17
In the previous part of this article, I shared about the real meaning of being in Christ. We learnt that to be in Christ means to be in union with Christ; and to have the same nature as He does. We also got to know that when you're born again, God actually recreates your human spirit. Thus, you're not just a modified human person- you're a completely new person. But there's something you have to be careful about over there. When you came into Christ, it was your spirit that was recreated- it was neither your mind nor your body. That's why your face still looks the same and sometimes you even have the tendency to think the same thoughts that you used to think when you were not born again. Remember, when you were born again, it was not your mind that was born again, neither was it your body that was born again- it was your spirit that was born again. It means that God has worked everything completely on the inside of you. But you have the task of working it out so that it's seen outwardly. So, it's true that you're forgiven of all of your sins. It's true that no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper. It's true that sin has no power over you anymore. The question is why do so many Christians' lifestyles not tally with what has been said about them? Ignorance!
The Bible says, 'My people are destroyed because they don’t know me...' (Hosea 4:6) God Himself is His Word. So, many Christians have not yet experienced what God has made available to them because they have not received revelation of who they are in Christ.
Romans 12:2 is a Scripture I constantly say that we should take time to meditate on constantly- it's pregnant with so much divine truth. Let's read it: 'Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.' You see, what God needs you to do is to simply align your way of thinking with His Word. When you begin to think the way God thinks about yourself, you will realise that changes will start taking place in your life in that area where you began to think differently. I assure you in the Name of Jesus!
I outlined three main categories within which you can find yourself in Christ in the previous article. I mentioned who you are (identity), what you have (inheritance) and what you can do (ability & authority). All the things I'll share with you here can be found in the Word ( and even more as you study on a daily basis).
Who you are (Identity): 'Who are you? Do you really know who you are? Where are your roots?' If you were asked any of these questions by a total stranger, what would be your first response? Well, what happens is that when we come into Christ, God gives us a new identity. We are made new creations. But most importantly, God makes us His children (see John 1:12; Galatians 3:26). Your roots are in Christ. Your identity is in God. Hallelujah! You are a victor (1 John 4:4)! You are the light of the world, the salt of the earth- a terror to the Kingdom of darkness (Matthew 5:14-16)! Glory to God! You are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)! Can I tell you something else? You are God's masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)! God wants you to recognise these truths in your spirit. It's not about reading about it and feeling happy- these things are real. When they become revelation to you, you will not remain the same again. As you study the Word of God, may God enlighten the eyes of your understanding so you may constantly be aware of who you are in Christ. You are not ordinary!
We shall discuss what we have and what we can do in Christ in the next part of the article. Until then, learn from the Word who you are and confess those things you see to yourself aloud!
