Why We Worship

The Bible says, 'Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.' (Romans 14:9). This means the purpose of Jesus' death and resurrection was to set Him on high as the Only Sovereign One. As such, He loves our worship. The main reason for worship is to see God as He really is- the Lord of all things, Ruler of Heaven and earth. In doing so, we receive revelation of who we are in Him. Worship brings glory to God. When you minister to the Lord in worship, you receive direction from the Spirit of God. You are thus led into the perfect will of God. At one point in the early Church, the Apostles and Prophets were ministering to the Lord and fasting and as they did so, the Holy Spirit gave them a Word concerning the advancement of the ministry. (Acts 13:1-5).

A man cannot worship God until he is born again. This is because the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). Jesus said God is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:21-24). Your heart needs to be circumcised through faith in the finished work of Christ. That is how you can get access into the presence of God; because the blood of Christ brings us near to God, and then we can fellowship with Him in worship (Read Ephesians 2)

We worship God in three main dimensions:
  • Presenting your life as a living sacrifice unto the Lord. Remember, worship is living your life daily for God's glory. Every activity becomes worship unto God. (see Romans 12:1-2; Romans 6; Philippians 3:3-21; Galatians 2:20).
  • Serving the Lord in His House (Romans 12:1-2; Romans 6:13,16; Psalm 100:2)
  • Offering unto God with the fruit of lips (Singing songs of worship to Him) (see Hebrews 13:15; Hosea 14:2; Psalm 50)
  • Giving offerings unto God (Proverbs 3:9-10; 2 Corinthians 9:6-12)
